Like iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, HomePod and HomePod mini are regularly updated with new software. The latest update was released on March 7 and allows Siri to know which media service you prefer.
By default, updates are installed on your HomePod devices automatically, but there is also a way to force an update if new software is released. However, Apple's automatic update feature usually doesn't work instantly, so sometimes it can be convenient to be able to install software manually when you know an update is available.
Finding HomePod updating and checking the version of installed software is quite simple, but it is not entirely intuitive since the update function is built into the Home app.
The following steps will show you how to update HomePod on devices running iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 and later.
- Open the Home app.
- Tap the icon that looks like three dots in the top right corner.
- Click Main Settings in the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down and click Software Update to see whether there are any updates available.
By selecting Software Update, you will be able to see the current version of HomePod software you have installed, as well as available updates, and you can turn off automatic updates if you wish.
If there is an update available, you just need to click the Install button to update HomePod. If you have multiple HomePods at home, each one will be updated at the same time using this software update feature. If you are registered with HomePod Beta updates, there will also be a menu option to update individual HomePods.
