iPhone 16: Leaked image supposedly shows new camera module design

We may have just received the first hardware leak of the iPhone 16 lineup. Today on social media, Majin Boo shared an image that, according to them, is “the new camera module of the iPhone 16.” The image shows a vertically oriented camera position, a change that has been reported repeatedly elsewhere.

iPhone 16 camera changes

For this year's iPhone 15 Pro, Apple changed the arrangement of the three camera lenses so that the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras are located on top of each other. This change allows iPhone 15 Pro to record spatial video for Vision Pro.

Currently, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus use a camera layout where the main and ultra-wide camera lenses are aligned diagonally. It is expected that by switching to vertically oriented design, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be able to record spatial video – just like the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

Today’ Majin Boo's image is further confirmation that Apple is planning to make changes into the iPhone 16's camera design. Writing for MacRumors, Marko Zivkovic says he can “independently verify the authenticity of the component's design.” The layout is similar to the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11.

With Vision Pro now available to customers in the US, Apple has plenty of reasons to encourage users to record spatial videos. Changes to iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will go a long way towards achieving this goal.
