LassPass app application in the App Store

The creators of the password manager LastPass have issued a warning that “LassPass” on the App Store is fraudulently posing as a real app.
LastPass is one of the many password managers available, although it has had its fair share of controversy. Now the company has issued a warning about a suspected counterfeit copy of its app.
“LastPass would like to warn our customers about a fraudulent app attempting to impersonate our LastPass app on the Apple App Store,” the alert said in a blog post. “The app in question is called LassPass Password Manager and the developer is listed as Parvati Patel.”
“The app attempts to copy our branding and user interface,” the warning continues, “although a close examination of the posted screenshots reveals spelling errors and other signs that the app is fraudulent.”
This “LassPass” app really does resemble the LastPass brand, and while its description doesn't match the wording of the actual app, it's essentially the same. However, this is because the descriptions place the same emphasis on the importance of password security and similar app features that any password manager would have.
However, it appears to be impersonating LastPass, raising the question of whether it is not just a fake but a tool for later phishing. In any case, it's bad that a counterfeit of an extremely famous app gets through the App Store review team — especially when Apple claims this process means it's more secure than third-party stores.
“Rest assured, LastPass is actively working to get this app removed as soon as possible,” the LastPass blog continues, “and will continue to monitor for fraudulent clones of our apps and/or violations of our intellectual property.”
