iTunes' days are numbered on Windows 10

Apple releases Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices apps for Windows users 10

Apple iTunes doesn't have much time left for Windows as Apple has released a new trio of apps to replace the venerable music player.

According to Apple's new support page, the trio of apps only work on Windows 10 and later. And don’t think that you can get by by downloading one application — you'll have to download all three.

While the Apple TV and Apple Music apps are self-explanatory, the Apple Devices app may not be.

The Apple Devices app will allow users to manually update, backup, restore and manage their iPhone or iPad. It will also allow them to manually sync content from their PC, much like Finder currently does on macOS.

After downloading any of the three applications, iTunes will only have access to podcasts and audiobooks.

“After downloading the Apple Music app, Apple TV app, and Apple Devices app, you won't see any music or videos in iTunes,” the support page says. “And you can't use iTunes to manually sync and manage your iPhone or iPad. You can only use iTunes to access your podcasts and audiobooks.”

However, Apple advises users to save their iTunes library. The Apple Music and Apple TV apps still need access to it.

If the user doesn't have Windows 10 or later, or if their computer can't run the above apps for some reason, they should still be able to use iTunes for now.

In January 2023, Apple released a preview of Apple Music and Apple TV for Windows 11.
