Apple today released the first developer beta of iOS 17.4, and there are a few changes to the Apple Podcasts app. Most notably, Apple Podcasts now supports transcripts. Apple says it will automatically generate transcripts of episodes once they are published, which can then be viewed in the Apple Podcasts app.
Apple says podcast transcripts will be available “shortly after” you publish the podcast episode itself. The company explains:
Apple automatically generates transcripts when a new episode is published. Your episode will be available to listen to immediately, and a transcript will appear shortly thereafter. There will be a slight delay in processing your transcript. If parts of your episode are changed by dynamically inserted audio, Apple Podcasts won't display parts of the audio that have changed since the original transcription. Song lyrics are also not displayed in transcripts.
In the “Now Playing” section” the screen in the Apple Podcasts app has a new inscription “quote” in the bottom toolbar, you can tap it to view a transcript of that episode. “When an episode plays, each word is highlighted, making it easy to follow,” he says. Apple says. You can click anywhere in the transcription to start listening from that specific point.
You can also view a text version of the transcript without listening to the episode by long-pressing the episode and selecting View Transcript. It is also possible to search for specific terms in each transcript.

Another small change to Apple Podcasts in iOS 17.4: the Now Playing bottom navigation bar has a new floating design, similar to Apple Music.
